LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION, WEST REGION, STATEWIDE Working Title: TDOC Retention Specialist - West Region https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/correction/documents/PositionRetentionSpecialist.pdf Qualifications Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and two or more years of professional human resources or law enforcement work. Substitution of Experience for Education: Qualifying full-time professional human resources or law enforcement experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years. Examination Method: Education and Experience, 100%, for Preferred Service positions. Overview Under immediate supervision, performs employee engagement and retention work of routine difficulty; and performs related work as required. Distinguishing Features: An incumbent in this class leads or is the technical expert in assisting with the development and execution of employee engagement and retention strategies for positions in a correctional facility or district office. Responsibilities Establishes retention expectations by studying organization plans and objectives; meets with managers to discuss needs. Schedule and conduct regular meetings with front-line employees, with emphasis on Correctional Officers and Parole/Probation Officers to assess workplace environment to identify trends and root causes leading to high turnover and retention challenges. Utilize established guidelines to document and report retention efforts using established metrics (regularly scheduled meetings, check-ins, and unscheduled touch points on an as needed basis, facility/office events, etc.). Develops a consultative relationship with executive leadership in the field and provides solutions to employee concerns; assesses the needs and interests of individuals/groups and plans activities accordingly to increase engagement and retention of staff, to include rewards and recognition programs. Work closely with Retention managers and facility/district HR Managers to prepare and execute field exit, climate, and stay surveys to ensure timely awareness of potential employee concerns/issues are provided. Collaborate closely with HR talent acquisition team, training officers, Field Training Officers, and the TN Correction Academy to ensure consistent and professional on-boarding, training, and transition from hire, through TCA, and into permanent positions. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reads professional publications; maintains personal networks; participates in professional organizations.
