SAN Engineer

The DaVita SAN Engineer works in a fast-paced, technology-dependent, security conscious environment. Storage Administrators ensure the effective and efficient delivery of Storage Systems within an ITIL structure. They are responsible for a combination of production and infrastructure support and new project initiatives. SAN Administrators work to maintain a highly available environment in support of a large user community in a multi-platform, multi-location environment. This position requires a high level of organization, excellent communication skills, and the ability to prioritize projects in a dynamic environment. This position will report to the Manager of Storage and Backup Systems.

Primary Production Support Duties:

  • Assist management with the creation of a long-term direction and strategy for Storage Operations within DaVita to properly support internal and external customers, integrate with the initiatives and long-term direction of other departments, and position Storage Operations to be able to support successful long-term operations
  • Provide Senior-level support for day-to-day operations as well as guidance on new technologies that advance the capabilities of the Storage team.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for the Infrastructure Team to further integrate with DevOps for on-prem and cloud-based initiatives.
  • Monitor and analyze enterprise storage infrastructure. Primary technologies include IBM Storage Virtualization, IBM SAN systems (v5000, v7000, FS7200), PureStorage FlashArray and FlashBlade, DellEMC Isilon, and Brocade Director-class switches.
  • Work with administrators from other technology lanes to assist with planning, execution, and troubleshooting of storage-related projects and initiatives.
  • Perform in-depth analysis of incidents and provide comprehensive action plans to avoid similar incidents in the future.
  • Analyze capacity and performance trends to help guide the Storage Strategy for current and near-future needs, as well as position DaVita to embrace emerging technologies.
  • Perform system maintenance and upgrades outside of production hours
  • Review system logs, track and report application issues and events
  • Create and modify system scripts to automate system processing
  • Assists in performing and documenting procedures
  • Help to formulate and document standard operating procedures
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support
  • Participate and support day to day ITIL activities
  • Coordinating the installation and configuration of new hardware.
  • Participate in the full lifecycle of a system during the planning, build, administration and maintenance, and eventual decommission
  • Assist with the planning and execution of short-term and long-term projects
  • Assume lead role on select projects and initiatives, act as Subject Matter Expert for inter-departmental discussions and planning
  • Assist with the installation of applications as required by development and application teams.
  • Participate in new technology reviews.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested by management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience
  • 15+ years' hands-on experience in an Enterprise-class Storage environment.
  • Strong experience with Fiber Channel Storage Area Networks, including the ability to perform in-depth problem and performance analysis.
  • Strong experience with storage provisioning and monitoring in an environment with Windows, Unix, and VMware.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in troubleshooting network connectivity in a secure environment.
  • Working knowledge of local area networking, compute, and standard virtualization platforms.
  • Working knowledge of at least one of the major backup systems (CommVault preferred).
  • Understanding of storage performance tuning for databases and clustered systems.

PREFERRED:

  • Advanced knowledge of the IBM Storage Virtualization platform and family of products, including performance and capacity analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced knowledge of Brocade Director-class switches, including performance and capacity analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Substantial hands-on experience with industry-standard block storage systems (IBM, PureStorage, HPe, etc)
  • Knowledge of network security basics and practices, including routing, encryption in-flight, and encryption at-rest.
  • Scripting skills to collect and report on storage capacity, utilization, and trending.

Level III- Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)

No required tasks involve greater exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues than would be encountered by a visitor. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids or other hazardous conditions.

The Salary Range for the role is $82,800.00-$121,600.00 per year. If a candidate is hired, they will be paid at least the minimum wage according to their geographical jurisdiction and the exemption status for the position. New York Exempt: New York City and Long Island: $64,350.00/year, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties: $64,350.00/year, Remainder of New York state: $60,405.80/year New York Non-exempt: New York City and Long Island: $16.50/hour, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties: $16.50/hour, Remainder of New York state: $15.50/hour Washington Exempt: $77,968.80/year Washington Non-exempt: Bellingham: $17.66/hour, Burien: $21.16/hour, Unincorporated King County: $20.29/hour, Renton: $20.90/hour, Seattle: $20.76/hour, Tukwila: $21.10/hour, Remainder of Washington state: $16.66/hour
