Job Summary

Davis 6 Centralized Monitoring provides the full range of telemetry monitoring throughout the hospital for adult inpatients. This position has direct supervisory responsibility for all technical staff and services provided in Davis 6 Centralized Monitoring. This position also has broad administrative responsibilities affecting the technical staff. In addition to the supervisory functions this role is expected to independently observe, interpret, and respond to telemetry waveform data; maintain records and documentation of waveforms in patient's medical record. Report changes in rate/rhythm to nurse and/or physician for urgent and/or non-urgent intervention; these actions have direct and immediate impact to patient outcomes. Maintain operation of Central Monitoring station and monitoring software system in collaboration with Clinical Engineering. Coordinates availability of transmitters, lead cables and other monitoring supplies. Assigned responsibility for training/education nurses new to telemetry waveform assessment strategies; provides orientation to the Central Monitoring station operations and equipment to nurses new to the unit. #CA-SB

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3 years as a cardiac monitor technician
  • Ability to assess and interpret EKG telemetry waveforms and observation data. Telemetry Certification strongly recommended.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English language and clearly convey information and explanations to patients, visitors, and staff in conversation or by telephone/intercom.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to interpret and understand the basic issues regarding patient's diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • Computer skills to use Central Telemetry Monitoring Systems and unit level computer systems and printers.
  • Supervisory Skills to hire employees, assign and monitor work, evaluate performance, take corrective action, and administer discipline.
  • Ability to promote and maintain effective communication, cooperation, professional behavior, and conflict resolution among all members of the cardiology patient care team.
  • Organization skills to create balanced work schedules, provide timely staff feedback, track supply usage and coordinate workflow changes technological upgrades.
  • Ability to coach and mentor employees, promoting teamwork and encouraging professional development.
  • Knowledge of principles of personnel management.
  • Visual acuity to observe central monitoring screens and interpret fine print/lines of EKG strips and report unsafe gross motor movement.
  • Ability to exhibit patience, tact, courtesy, and empathy when patients, family and visitors are inquiring, angry anxious or upset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) issued through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) issued through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Ability to recognize the need for confidentiality and remain within legal and assigned limits of job.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with nursing and medical staff and staff from other departments.
  • Ability to maintain records and logs in a complete and accurate manner.
  • Ability to safely lift 25 pounds and to move equipment, supplies.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

Department Overview

Davis 6 Cardiology Services Unit is a 36-bed telemetry unit. The nurses on this unit manage the care of patients on the cardiology inpatient services, patients who are pre and post cardiac/vascular intervention procedures, and other acute care specialty patients who have a need for cardiac telemetry monitoring. Collaboration, teamwork and attentiveness to the needs of each patient are key components to the excellent care provided to our patient populations.

Work Environment
