This opportunity is in the Finance and Accounting department

Role Description:

As the Assistant Vice President, International Insurance Accounting, you will lead accounting teams responsible for recording loss reserve activity in compliance with various accounting standards, including STAT, GAAP, and IFRS. You will analyze reserve outcomes and contribute to setting Management's Best Estimate of loss reserves. Additionally, you will collaborate with external consultants and designated personnel across Safety National, RSL, DFG, and Tokio Marine. Your leadership will be instrumental in guiding accounting teams, ensuring accurate financial reporting, conducting accounting research, and overseeing insurance and reinsurance accounting processes.

Key responsibilities include:



  • Enhancing existing analysis of results under IFRS 17 in comparison to GAAP results, budget, period over period, etc., to align with KPI reporting under existing bases of accounting.
  • Presenting results to key stakeholders within Safety National and parent company management.
  • Managing and mentoring staff, assigning workloads, reviewing work products, and providing training and development opportunities.
  • Overseeing financial reporting processes to ensure compliance with IFRS and other accounting standards.
  • Conducting research on emerging accounting policies and providing recommendations to management.
  • Leading insurance and reinsurance accounting activities, ensuring accurate reporting for direct, assumed, and ceded business.
  • Supporting annual budgeting efforts and bridging forecasting between GAAP and IFRS.
  • Providing guidance on project management and accounting initiatives related to IFRS implementation.
  • Keeping senior leadership informed on project progress and accounting developments.
  • Participating in special projects and corporate committees as needed.


Qualifications:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)


Required Qualifications:



  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future
  • Credentialed Actuary (ACAS or FCAS) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • 10 or more years of experience in the insurance industry, including management or supervisory experience
  • Extensive experience with IFRS 17 accounting standards
  • Expertise with insurance contract accounting and financial reporting requirements under STAT & GAAP
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to develop others for more responsibility and career advancement
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently under deadlines


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Project management experience related to accounting initiatives
  • Master's degree

Compensation for the successful candidate will consider the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location.
