Position Summary

Join PG&E's Applied Technology Services (ATS) Engineering team and help drive solutions across a wide range of technical challenges. Our experts work in multiple disciplines, supporting company-wide initiatives and recommending best practices to prevent issues before they occur. From inspecting and analyzing equipment to evaluating performance and demonstrating new tech, you'll play a key role in shaping PG&E's future. Plus, you'll help with craft project bids and ensure safety and quality standards are always met.

As Principal Electrical Engineer, you'll lead technical efforts and mentor teams across ATS. Responsibilities include developing arc-flash and grounding safety programs, high voltage/current analysis and investigating electrical incidents. You'll also travel for assignments, typically 5% to 10% of the time.

The selected candidate must live within PG&E's service territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Min $155,000.00

Mid $210,000.00

Max $265,000.00

Responsibilities:

Make independent decisions on complex issues, integrating information from multiple sources. Leads teams in scoping, scheduling, and budgeting. Maintains strong client relationships by understanding expectations and concerns. Contributes to industry publications and supports programs related to grounding, arc flash, substation design, live line work, and compliance.

As Principal Electrical Engineer, participates in industry organizations, committees, and conferences (ASTM, IEEE, EPRI, CIGRE, CEATI, etc.).

Recognized as a subject matter expert in specific disciplines and applies broad knowledge to analyze and manage projects across multiple fields.

  • Substation switchyard grounding analysis
  • Temporary protective grounding procedure development
  • Arc flash hazard analysis and program development
  • Engineering support for the development of live line work procedures
  • Develops, evaluates, and deploys new technologies. Identifies innovations and cost-reduction potential of new and existing technologies.
  • May provide expert opinion or information related to projects or other issues to external customers, agencies, or other parties.
  • Interfaces with clients to understand expectations and concerns and ensure strong customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with emphasis in a discipline related to assignments. (i.e., mechanical, civil or electrical engineering, etc.)
  • 10 years of related experience

Desired:

  • P.E. (Professional Engineer License)
  • Specialized knowledge in engineering principles, testing, and methods.
  • Experience with electrical utilities, including power system studies, planning, operations, design, equipment specification, testing, and development of procedures.
  • Familiarity with technical testing technologies.
  • Leadership in standard development and industry participation.
  • Published works advancing the utility sector.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance and control.
  • Skilled in investigative problem-solving and analytics.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation abilities.
  • Project management and team leadership experience.
  • Adaptable customer service approach for project and team success.
