SoneparUSA is seeking a Director of Transportation to lead and elevate enterprise-wide transportation performance across a decentralized, multi-operating company (OpCo) network. This is a high-impact leadership role for a transportation professional who thrives in complex environments, influences without authority, and is passionate about continuous improvement, people development, and operational excellence.

This leader will shape transportation strategy, optimize fleet and routing performance, strengthen vendor and carrier partnerships, and drive consistent, data-informed execution-while partnering closely with OpCo leaders to improve service, safety, cost, and customer experience.

Why This Role:

  • Enterprise-level impact across a national operating network
  • Opportunity to shape transportation strategy, not just execute it
  • Strong emphasis on people development, process improvement, and innovation
  • High visibility and partnership with senior operational and supply chain leaders

What You'll Do:

As Director of Transportation, you will serve as a strategic partner and operational coach, helping operating companies modernize and mature their transportation capabilities.

Strategic Transportation Leadership

  • Develop and guide enterprise transportation strategies that improve delivery performance, route efficiency, and service reliability
  • Influence and align decentralized OpCo leaders through expertise, insight, and partnership
  • Challenge legacy practices and raise transportation standards across the network

People Leadership & Capability Building

  • Coach and develop transportation leaders across operating companies
  • Build transportation maturity through training, best-practice deployment, and assessments
  • Model an inclusive, collaborative leadership style grounded in continuous learning

Executive Communication & Influence

  • Translate transportation data and insights into clear, executive-ready recommendations
  • Present performance, risks, and opportunities to senior leaders with confidence and clarity

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify inefficiencies and lead OpCos toward practical, sustainable solutions
  • Drive standardized processes, compliance, and KPI-driven performance management
  • Partner across supply chain, safety, operations, and customer experience to align execution

Fleet Management & Lifecycle Optimization

  • Lead fleet utilization, lifecycle planning, and replacement strategies
  • Optimize acquisition, maintenance, fuel programs, and fleet technologies
  • Use analytics and dashboards to improve fleet performance and cost control

Vendor, Carrier & Commercial Management

  • Negotiate and manage national carriers, LTL partners, 3PLs, and transportation vendors
  • Drive adoption of national agreements and challenge historical spend patterns
  • Monitor SLAs, benchmarks, and cost drivers to ensure value and performance

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Logistics, Operations, or related field
  • 10+ years of progressive transportation leadership experience, ideally within a decentralized or multi-site national organization
  • Deep expertise in transportation strategy, routing optimization, fleet management, and DOT compliance
  • Strong data fluency with experience using TMS, ERP, fleet management systems, and performance dashboards
  • Proven success leading change, standardization, and cross-functional initiatives
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across levels and functions
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 50% and reside within 30 miles of a major airport
  • Must be authorized to work for Sonepar in the United States without VISA sponsorship now or in the future.
