The Job at a Glance
The Warehouse Picking Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the picking department within the warehouse. This role ensures that customer orders are accurately picked, packed, and prepared for shipment in a timely and efficient manner. The Picking Supervisor leads a team of warehouse associates, enforces safety standards, and drives productivity to meet performance goals.
A Typical Day
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the picking team to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment.
- Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, and conduct training to maintain high productivity and quality standards.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, safety procedures, and quality control standards.
- Collaborate with warehouse leadership and other departments (shipping, receiving, inventory) to optimize workflow and resolve operational issues.
- Maintain an organized and clean work environment in the picking area.
- Monitor and report on picking productivity, error rates, and order accuracy; implement corrective actions as needed.
- Assist in developing and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency.
- Schedule labor and manage timekeeping for team members to ensure adequate staffing during shifts.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies or order issues related to picking.
- Promote a positive, team-oriented culture and support employee engagement.
To Land This Opportunity
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or relevant coursework in supply chain or logistics is a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in warehouse operations, with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role.
- Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) and RF scanning equipment.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities. You're proficient in English (verbal and written). Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and best practices in warehouse operations.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends or holidays, as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and stand/walk for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in varying warehouse temperatures and conditions.
- Manual dexterity to operate warehouse equipment and tools.
- Experience with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies is helpful.
- Forklift certification preferred.
