Job Description

MIT Lincoln Laboratory's Division 3 is seeking a well-rounded, self-motivated Student IT Technician to support day-to-day IT operations. This full-time co-op is ideal for students with a strong technical foundation who are eager to grow their skills in a hands-on, professional environment.


The student will work on-site alongside Division IT staff to provide technical support to end users, assist with patch management, and contribute to general IT operations. The role includes helpdesk responsibilities as well as asset and inventory management tasks.


Candidates should have experience with Windows 10/11 and Windows Server 2019/2022 and/or Linux (Red Hat 8/9 preferred). Familiarity with PC hardware is expected.


This position requires a 40-hour on-site work week during the student's co-op experience.


Key Responsibilities:




  • Provide support for computer systems, software, hardware, and networks



  • Install, configure, and test workstations and peripherals



  • Image systems using imaging software



  • Respond to helpdesk tickets via in-person, phone, or email communication



  • Document internal procedures and user-facing support materials



  • Triage and troubleshoot helpdesk tickets



  • Support asset management and inventory tracking



  • Update and maintain the CMDB inventory database



  • Create user documentation for CMDB usage




Qualifications:




  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10/11



  • Working knowledge of Linux (Red Hat or Ubuntu preferred)



  • Solid understanding of PC hardware



  • Ability to work independently and in small teams



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills



  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level DoD security clearance




Education Requirement:




  • Enrolled in a BS program in Computer Science or a related technical field
