Senior Transportation Advisor

At RK&K, we are hiring a Sr. Technical Advisor with the vision, experience, and drive to advise on the technical aspects of our transportation projects. This position will be based in our Baltimore, MD office, and the candidate may work with other offices of the company. As a Sr. Technical Advisor at RK&K, you will partner with our expert engineers, planners, designers, and support staff to deliver world class engineering solutions to state, federal and local government customers.

Our technical advisors are primarily responsible for providing critical advice and review on complex projects. Working alongside our project managers, advisors work with planners and engineers to produce innovative, complete project delivery of the highest quality. These technical leaders have a thorough understanding of national, state and local requirements and have a passion for mentoring staff.

This position will be on a casual, part-time role (approximately 10-20 hours per week).

Essential Functions

• Lead and contribute expertise on transportation planning and design projects in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
• Lead and mentor engineering and planning staff on transportation planning and/or design tasks.
• Incorporate the latest technology and innovation into projects.
• Engage in quality management process for deliverables.
• Interfaces with client's and/or teaming partners' technical managers
• Advise and support teams in the preparation of planning documents, construction documents, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
• Understand NEPA, AASHTO and FHWA design requirements and other manuals and guidelines including the plan development process

Required Skills and Experience

• Thirty (30) years or more of experience in transportation/roadway engineering supporting DOT agencies and/or local municipalities
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or related field from an ABET accredited engineering program
• Eagerness and passion for leading complex transportation projects and creating lasting technical solutions
• Willingness to teach and mentor design staff on the technical aspects of transportation projects

Preferred Skills and Experience

• USDOT, state DOT, and/or local county/city agency experience
• Experience with USDOT funding and project development requirements
• Alternative project delivery experience is a plus

Salary range: $80-$100 per hour
