Recruitment Title: Service Owner, Academic Technology Support Services

About the Position

As the Service Owner for Academic Technology Support Services (ATSS), you will have a lead role in defining and guiding the future of support for Academic Technology at the University of Minnesota. This position actively leads efforts by a cross-functional team of instructional designers, academic technologists, and media producers to identify and create services to support instructors in the use of academic technology in all course modalities from in-person to fully online. A successful Service Owner identifies and pilots emerging technologies that enhance teaching and learning across the university, and proactively provides the support needed by instructors. This position works closely with colleges and system campuses as well as other central units to provide a vision for what services should be offered at the college or system campus level versus offered centrally for the entire university. The ATSS service owner works with individuals and groups from across the university system which will require an ability to effectively communicate with a broad and diverse audience. Job Responsibilities:

Service Strategy:

  • Actively engage in opportunities to identify and implement emerging trends in academic technology and shifts in teaching practices in higher education in order to create effective faculty development and academic technology support offerings for the university community.
  • Engage with the University community to understand gaps in the current support services offered centrally to instructors and seek effective and efficient solutions.
  • Establish and maintain roadmaps and priorities for the service offerings that make up the Academic Technology Support Service.
  • Document the value and impact of the Academic Technology Support Services on Teaching and Learning for University leadership.
  • Collaborate with other Academic Technology Service Owners and Sr. Leaders to develop tailored success strategies and tool implementations.

Service Definition

  • Define and develop policies and procedures for Service Delivery to address needs, ensure consistency, and quality improvement measures.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to operate and advance academic technology governance for the University of Minnesota enterprise.
  • Maintain and develop partnerships with stakeholders to advance improvement opportunities that may require change, retirement and/or investment in the services being offered.
  • Ensure there is appropriate documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and knowledge base articles.

Service Delivery

  • Manage service level agreements (SLAs), participate in academic technology governance, and actively engage in outreach efforts to promote ATSS offerings.
  • Provide leadership for initiatives ranging from moderate to high complexity which involve colleges, system campuses and other central units across the university system.
  • Seek out promising emerging academic technologies and work with the team to pilot the technologies to determine if they should be adopted at the University.
  • Negotiate with vendors on product issues, product purchases, recurring licensing, and/or maintenance fees.
  • Collaborate with Academic Technology leadership to align services and priorities across the academic technology function and the University system.
  • Ensure equitable access to academic technology support services across the entire University system.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to team members.
Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus at least six years of experience, or master's degree plus at least four years of experience in academic technology, instructional design, media production, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing change initiatives that involve a large, diverse user base.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2+ years of team leadership or management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience participating in or leading governance processes in a complex organizational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams in an academic or technology-focused environment.
  • Experience driving efficiency of support services in a complex work environment with a diverse client base.
  • Experience creating faculty development offerings in a large higher education institution.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing a service vision including identifying roadmaps, KPI's, or Service-Level Agreements (SLA's).
  • Experience negotiating with vendors for academic technology tools, and building effective relationships across a complex organization and with external partners.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $120,000 - $130,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience
