About The Opportunity

WeWork is seeking an employment attorney to join its employment law team as a Director within its Legal Department. This position will sit in New York and will report to the Global Head of Litigation, Employment & Investigations.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise on employment matters throughout the United States and Canada, including hiring/recruitment, promotions, leaves and accommodations, performance and absenteeism management, disciplinary actions, reductions in force, terminations, and post-termination disputes.

  • Provide counsel to HR and business leaders on a wide range of issues, including restrictive covenants agreements, severance agreements, discrimination, harassment, leave, compliance, restructuring, franchising, M&A due diligence and integration, accommodations, pay equity, wage and hour, and worker classifications.

  • Oversee and partner with outside counsel on employment litigation.

  • Draft and review HR policies and handbooks, develop HR training programs, and train HR and business leaders on employment-related matters.

  • Draft compensation plans, including sales compensation plans and governance policies.

  • Oversee and occasionally conduct internal employment investigations involving alleged violations of law.

  • Monitor and draft submissions to regulatory agencies that involve employment-related reporting obligations, including EEO-1 and related wages reports, affirmative action reports/plans, and unemployment and workers' compensation inquiries.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate and law degree.

  • 7+ years' combined experience in law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably as an employment lawyer in a multinational, U.S. based company.

  • Proven expertise in U.S. employment law and litigation.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build close partnerships with business and legal stakeholders

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines, workflow, and team execution in a fast-based and demanding work environment

  • Ability to translate legal requirements into understandable risk-based recommendations for the business and legal functions.

  • Experience advising on sales compensation, including sales commission plans, is a plus.

  • Experience and/or interest in EMEA employment law is also a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Pay: $230,000 - $260,000

Incentive Compensation: WeWork employees are eligible to participate in an incentive plan specific to their role. Your recruiter will detail what incentive plan is applicable to this specific role. WeWork incentive plans are subject to the terms of the applicable incentive compensation plan, which will be made available to you after commencing employment. WeWork reserves the right to amend its incentive plans, and nothing in this job requisition or any other document creates a right to a specific incentive plan payment.

Benefits: Full-time employees are eligible for comprehensive benefits (subject to the terms of applicable plans/policies/agreements, which will be made available to you after commencing employment), including: 20 days of PTO, 11 paid holidays, and 80 hours of paid sick time per full calendar year; 16 weeks paid parental leave; competitive healthcare benefits; 401k plan; and life and AD&D insurance.
