Compensation

Salary Range: $47.72 - $71.91 per hour

The pay range above represents the lowest possible rate for the position and the highest possible rate. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for engineering and maintenance operations, to ensure a safe, efficient and effective delivery of services to patients, staff and other building occupants in a hospital/healthcare setting.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

    Provides leadership and manages a team of skilled maintenance engineers towards the accomplishment of daily operations of the health system. Manages the daily assignment and follow up of duties to ensure work is completed in a timely and quality manner.

  1. Maintains a positive working relationship with members of management, direct reports, and all customers. Communicates regularly and effectively with employees of all levels within the organization and is viewed as a knowledgeable and proficient technical resource.

  2. Responds to emergency situations by providing guidance to personnel and ensuring rapid and effective situation recovery, minimizing negative impacts on healthcare operations.

  3. Recommends and implements improvements for preventative maintenance on all equipment on an ongoing basis.

  4. Oversees all building systems including but not limited to fire/life safety, plumbing, HVAC and electrical issues.

  5. Maintains and imparts current knowledge of latest building management technology and trends to the staff as required to remain in compliance.

  6. Ensures compliance with applicable codes, requisitions, government agencies and CMH directives as related to building operations.
  7. Coordinates maintenance efforts with outside contractors and engineers. Develops specifications and assist in solicitation and administration of maintenance and repair contracts.
  8. Maintains and updates as-built drawings in hard copy or electronic formats.
  9. Manages the day to day performance of personnel and contractors.
  10. Performs building inspections at consistent intervals to monitor overall conditions of buildings, ensuring engineers take corrective actions as needed.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises maintenance engineers and plant operators. Manages the engineering ticket maintenance system, ensuring all work requests are entered, assigned and completed in a timely and quality manner. Conducts performance evaluations, counsels and coaches employees, administers disciplinary actions if required, keeps the Director of Facilities abreast of any personnel issues, and consults with the Director of Facilities on hiring and disciplinary recommendations. Conducts staff meetings/huddles to support the execution of departmental expectations and responsibilities. Manages and approves time off requests, while maintaining department coverage. Schedules training time for engineers and performs on the job training as needed.



Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Ten (10) years of experience in operations, maintenance of hospitals and/or medical office buildings
  • Two (2) years of management, lead or supervisory experience

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree
  • ASHE Certified Health Care Facilities Manager (CHFM)
  • ASHE Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP)
  • Strong HVAC and electrical background
  • Current knowledge of local, state and federal codes and regulations
  • Experience with construction management, Fire/Life Safety systems and BMS/EMS
