Job Overview

A full-time open rank education track faculty position is available in the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences (DEPHS) at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. DEPHS conducts world-renowned research and offers graduate training in environmental & Industrial Hygiene, epidemiology, environmental genetics and molecular toxicology, and public health. The department has five divisions (Epidemiology, Environmental Genetics and Molecular Toxicology, Environmental and Industrial Hygiene, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and Public Health Sciences). The DEPHS's research portfolio for environmental and occupational health is among the top in the nation. The NIH, the American Heart Association, NIOSH, industry, foundations, and various federal and state agencies provide research funding for the DEPHS.



The Public Health Program is a CEPH-accredited graduate program offering the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree. The program offers seven concentrations: biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental public health, global health, health education and health promotion, health services and management, and occupational public health. In addition, the MPH program offers an MD-MPH and PharmD-MPH Program track. The newly hired faculty will have the opportunity to collaborate through educational and service activities through public health community partners, such as the Cincinnati Public Health Department, the Hamilton County Public Health Department, and the Northern Kentucky Health Department. In addition, collaborative activities are encouraged with leading health systems, including but not limited to, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Center for Closing the Health Gap, People Working Cooperatively, as well as federal agencies such as the EPA and NIOSH.

Essential Functions

  • (1) Serve as primary faculty lead for applied practical experiences (APE) and integrated learning experiences (ILE), ensuring alignment with CEPH accreditation standards and programmatic competencies. The candidate will be responsible for the oversight and administration of all aspects of the APE and ILE, as outlined by MPH program leadership. This includes, but is not limited to, developing and sustaining community and organizational partnerships essential to the success of the APE and ILE. Additional responsibilities related to APE/ILE may be assigned as needed to support the goals of the MPH program.
  • (2) Teach public health courses at the graduate level in the areas of public health practice, health systems, policy, or other relevant topics as needed; (3) advise and mentor students in academic and professional development, including achievement in APE and ILE; (4) assist with MPH curriculum development, innovation, and continuous quality improvement as well as program assessment, community engagement, and involvement with professional societies through service; (5) collaborate with MPH faculty and leadership to ensure program success, student satisfaction, and alignment with workforce needs; (6) participate in MPH program meetings, accreditation preparation, strategic planning, and departmental service activities; and (7) establish, implement, and uphold MPH policies to ensure the effective delivery and management of all assigned courses and program activities.

Required Education

Doctoral degree (DrPH, PhD, or equivalent) in the public health field or a related field such as health education, health behavior, health services, health economics and finance, public health leadership, and allied health sciences.

Required Experience

  • Graduate teaching experience in public health.
  • Experience in advising and mentoring graduate students.
  • Experience in public health practice, particularly in community or applied settings.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience coordinating APE, ILE, fieldwork, or other culminating experience components in CEPH-accredited MPH programs.
  • Familiarity with CEPH competencies and accreditation standards.
  • Evidence of collaborative teaching, curriculum development, and community-engaged scholarship or practice.
  • Experience working with various student populations and community stakeholders.
  • Experience in teaching graduate public health courses related to health systems and policy, leadership, management, APE/ILE or equivalent, and/or public related disease.
  • Experience in partnering with domestic and/or international public health and/or community-based agencies.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Previous experience in establishing certified continuing education programs (CEUs) is ideal.
  • Various and applied public health practice experience in the community, including local non-profits, businesses, and health departments, as well as policy advocacy experience at the local, state, and national levels is ideal.
