Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an IT Support Specialist with experience in system management, advanced Microsoft Excel expertise, scripting, and process automation. This position requires a proactive professional with good communications skills who can manage workflows that include onboarding new user accounts and credentials, allocate computer resources, track usage and provide user assistance in NRL's support to the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP). The ideal candidate will have strong communication and analytical skills with experience using automation tools and have a willingness to learn new procedures.

Environment:

The position is with the Naval Research Laboratory's Center for Computational Science, located in Washington, DC, that will assist the NRL S/AAA (Service/Agency Approval Authority) in managing and allocating accounts and computer time in the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) centers.

HPCMP user accounts are managed using the portal Information Environment (pIE). pIE is a special purpose web-based application, developed by the HPCMP, which is used by users to apply for accounts and by S/AAA's to approve accounts and set/modify the compute hours that a user might use during the year (allocations).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Management & Analysis: Utilize advanced Excel features such as pivot tables, Power Query, complex formulas, and macros to process and manage large datasets efficiently.
  • Process Automation: Write, modify, and execute macros (VBA) and system-level scripts (Linux Bash, Python, PowerShell, SQL) to automate workflows and enhance system integration.
  • Task Flow Monitoring: Track user requests and tasks, ensuring smooth execution without bottlenecks.
  • User & Account Administration: Manage user onboarding processes, account approvals, training certification tracking, CAC registration, security visit requests, and application reviews.
  • System Configuration & Maintenance: Oversee account allocations and modify high-performance computing allocations and execute system scripts for workflow adjustments.
  • Communication & Coordination: Monitor and respond to daily user requests and system notifications via email while ensuring timely task execution.
  • Annual Reviews & Compliance: Facilitate program and project reviews, system renewals, and ensure compliance with organizational standards.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • BS with 2-4 Years, MS 0-2 or HS 8-10 Years
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a minimum US SECRET DOD security clearance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, Power Query, macros/VBA)
  • Scripting skills (Linux Bash, Python, PowerShell) for system automation
  • Experience with workflow management and task tracking
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, etc)
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in IT systems and applications.
  • Familiarity with High-Performance Computing (HPC) and cross-organizational collaborations.
  • Familiarity with DOD security clearances and associated processes and visit requests procedures.
  • Active DOD security clearance.

This is the projected compensation range for this position. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
