Department Information

About The Institute for Neuroscience, Neurotechnology, and Society (INNS): The Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) seeks to fill the Assistant Director Business Operations within the newly created Institute for Neuroscience, Neurotechnology, and Society (INNS). INNS will work across all of Georgia Tech, catalyzing interdisciplinary scholarship at the intersection of neuroscience, neurotechnology, and society. INNS will serve as the central organizing point for research, collaborations, and outreach related to neuroscience, neurotechnology, and society by working closely with schools and Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) to foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

Job Summary

Manage assigned sub-units of the business related function of campus organization such as a school, research center or department. Areas overseen will vary but can include administrative, human resources, finance, facilities, communications, etc. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: unit management and staff, subordinate staff, customers and vendors. This position typically will advise and counsel: unit management. This position will supervise: assigned business unit staff.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Organize assigned functions in a manner that best supports overall unit operations.

Job Duty 2 -
Serve as a resource to unit management providing information and advice on matters related to assigned business areas.

Job Duty 3 -
Oversee the preparation of reports, schedules, financial statements, etc. on both scheduled and ad hoc basis.

Job Duty 4 -
Develop strategic plans for area of responsibility; participate in unit strategic planning process.

Job Duty 5 -
Establish and maintain external relationships related to business operations of unit (vendors, USG, other campus units, etc.)

Job Duty 6 -
Assign staff duties and monitor and evaluate ongoing performance; counsel as appropriate.

Job Duty 7 -
Formulate and recommend new or revised business related policies and procedures that result in improved business processes.

Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Five to seven years of job related experience

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's of Business Administration (MBA)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS
Position requires general knowledge in the application of principles and practices of general business administration to include accounting, budgeting, human resources and procurement. Oral and written communications skills are required as is ability to establish and maintain viable external relationships. Leadership and supervisory skills are vital.
