Job Summary: The part-time Accounting Supervisor position in the Milwaukee County Comptroller's Office oversees financial reporting, accounting operations, and compliance with GASB/GAAP. The major objective of the role is to ensure accurate and timely preparation of annual financial statements and reports and maintain internal controls. This job exists to support the County's fiscal integrity and transparency in managing public funds.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Assists in preparation of the yearly ACFR (Annual Comprehensive Financial Report). Manage, coordinate and compile financial data for the ACFR. Ensure compliance with GASB standards. Collaborate with departments to collect required documentation.
  • Manage, review and approve monthly account reconciliations. Identify efficiencies to reduce errors and processing time related to Reconciliations. Ensure team is trained appropriately on Account recon. Investigate and resolve discrepancies. Ensure timely and accurate recon.
  • Assists with preparation and filing of the annual State Report.
  • Assist with ongoing maintenance and monthly and year end closing. Participate in system upgrades, testing, and rollout. Assist in user acceptance testing and documentation.
  • Processes cash receipts, journal vouchers approvals, Job authorizations, activity codes, and budget transfers with input to the accounting system as necessary. Assist with managing accounting system and closings. Manage record storage and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate and lead in process improvement initiatives. Manage internal and external reporting requests. Perform special projects, training events and ad hoc analyses as needed.
  • Assists peers and other departments with projects, questions and concerns. Gathers, analyzes, interprets, reports and advises on special projects. Provide support and guidance to accounting staff
  • Reviews and reconciles balance sheet accounts ensuring accuracy in reporting. Prepares reports in compliance with administrative rules, County Ordinances, GAAP, Federal and State laws.
  • Manage various year-end processes including but not limited to: Annual year-end closing calendar, County year-end close meeting, External auditor requests and related items.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:



  • Current resident of Wisconsin
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or closely related field
  • Five (5) or more years of experience working in accounting or related field.


Required Skills and Abilities:


Team player with the ability to work harmoniously and effectively with both co-workers and external contacts.


Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must stay up to date with changes in GAAP, GASB, and FASB. Frequent contact with employees, across other departments and external entities to gather factual information of a confidential manner, answer queries or ask for assistance. The ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, routine reports, and correspondence. Speak effectively before both internal and external groups. Read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to use MS Office products with a high emphasis on excel functions, pivot tables and tables.
