The Division of Enrollment Management at Rutgers University-Newark is dedicated to attracting, admitting, and supporting students throughout their academic journey. The division includes several key areas: One Stop Student Services (which integrates the Office of Financial Aid and the Registrar's Office), the Office of Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions, and the Center for Pre-College Programs.
The Senior Financial Aid Counselor position will be housed within the Office of Financial Aid, which is part of the integrated One Stop Student Services model. The Office of Financial Aid provides students with information and support related to financial aid, student accounts, and bill payment. |
Posting Summary |
Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Sr Financial Aid Counselor. Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Financial Aid, is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of applications for financial assistance. This involves the strict application of all federal, state, and institutional regulations, policies and procedures used to implement them. This employee also reviews and verifies documents and maintains appropriate and computer and paper files. Upon finding discrepancies in any information received, this employee initiates follow ups to ensure accurate awarding and clear audit trail.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Advises students and parents on matters such as the proper completion of application forms, answers questions and concerns, budget planning, debt management, as well as other complexities of the financial aid process.
- Oversees the duties of support staff and federal work study employees and provides training and leadership in accomplishing staff/office goals.
- Provides assistance to support staff in answering students' questions and in disseminating accurate information about the financial aid process in general, or student cases in particular.
- Represents the department at various functions such as loan entrance interviews, high school nights, first year student orientations, recruitment functions, Open House, and other campus or university functions.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- A combination of a Bachelor's Degree and two years of experience in financial aid administration.
- A minimum of two years of management experience working within a University setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Must have detailed working knowledge of all federal, state and institutional programs.
- Must have excellent communications and student counseling skills.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Preferred working knowledge of federal/state financial aid systems and internal school operation systems: NSLDS, COD, HESSA, ELM, CPS, ImageNow, Banner, Datatel or Peoplesoft.
