Position Summary:
The Staff
Psychologist/Clinician provides culturally-informed and responsive direct mental health services
to students; develops community-level programming to foster University-wide
mental health awareness, education and wellness and collaborates with
university staff, administrators and faculty to provide outreach and
consultation that supports the aims, objectives, and missions of C-CAPS and the
university. Responsibilities
include: provision of confidential clinical/mental health services with an
emphasis on short-term individual counseling/psychotherapy; group counseling;
crisis intervention, referral to off-campus resources; campus consultation; and
development and provision of outreach and wellness programming.

Competitive candidates will
have demonstrated expertise in the provision of mental health services to a
diverse population and culturally responsive treatment, and experience in
clinical and outreach services with diverse client populations. Job responsibilities include providing
triage, individual counseling and psychotherapy, group therapy, diagnostic
assessments, crisis services and outreach programming. In addition, the
position involves making referrals to and coordinating care with other C-CAPS
providers including the C-CAPS consulting psychiatrist, referrals to off-campus
providers of psychological.

Essential Functions:
Clinical/mental health services:
-Provides initial consultation, triage assessment and therapeutic interventions such as short-term individual counselling and psychotherapy, safety planning and other treatment options.
-Provides group counseling/psychotherapy to students-clients.
-Provides therapeutic support, acute intervention, follow-up, case management and referral services and collaborates with the C-CAPS Director and off-campus providers as needed.
- Provides crisis
intervention, manages mental health emergencies (e.g. suicide threats, acute
psychotic decompensation). Consults with director, other C-CAPS clinical staff
and consulting psychiatrist as needed.
-Maintains client
charts and makes periodic case presentations to C-CAPS professional
staff.
-Provides focused
psychological counseling groups and structured topical workshops around mental
health, wellness, personal adjustment and human relations issues.
-Engages in peer clinical case consultation.

Develops formal and informal lines of communication with
NJIT staff, students, and faculty including
outreach programming and consultation services for the campus community.
-Provides consultation to staff and faculty around individual student's mental health related issues and concerns.
-Provides outreach to students focused on topics such as: mental health awareness and wellness, anxiety/depression//suicide awareness, stress management, AOD, men's issues, LGBTQIA+ issues, sexual assault, diversity/students of color, eating disorders, etc.
-Provides workshops/presentations for professional staff and paraprofessional staff (e.g. tutors, resident assistants, teaching assistants).
-Provides workshops/presentations on relevant adjustment issues at various orientation programs for new students
(e.g. first-year students).
-Active participant in college committees related to mental health and wellness; inclusion and belonging, and other wellbeing-related activities and within the university.

Seeks clinical supervision from Director and other C-CAPS
staff as appropriate for students with
serious psychological issues and conditions, for crisis intervention, and for other
clinical issues and off-campus referrals.

Additional Functions:
-Responds to psychological emergencies as needed.
-Attends C-CAPS clinical group supervision and case
management meetings as required.
-Develops formal and informal lines of communication with
NJIT faculty, staff and students.
-Provides training and consultation to academic and
administrative departments concerning mental
health and wellness issues.
-Keeps up with professional developments in the psychological
and counseling and outreach fields.
-Attends Division of Student Affairs and institute meetings and
serves on committees as appropriate and
needed.
-Participates in major university events/programs such as
orientation, Open House, parent/family
sessions, etc.
-Performs additional duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
with 1-3 years of relevant experience, and fully licensed or license
eligible as a Psychologist in New Jersey.
-Master's degree and licensed as a
Clinical Social Worker with 3+ years of relevant experience.
-NJ Licensed Professional Counselor with 4+ years of relevant experience.
-Experience working with a culturally diverse population.

Licenses and Certificates:
-Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in NJ.
-Fully Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or Professional Counselor in NJ.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Professional experience in college or university
counseling/mental health center.
-Background and interest in one or more
of the following: suicide treatment/prevention, men's mental
health/working with male clients, stress management/anxiety disorders,
EDI/multicultural counseling/cultural diversity, substance abuse
prevention/treatment, eating disorders, LGBTQIA+ issues, sexual
assault/relationship violence prevention/treatment.

Salary Information:
In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the negotiated annual salary range for this position is $73,502.29-$137,773.44(USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
