GENERAL SUMMARY: At the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practitioner, contributes to meeting patient's priority needs by assessing and participating in interdisciplinary care planning, providing delegated care and timely communication of the patient's response. Contributes to an efficient and effective work environment through activities including professional communication and documentation. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to the KRMC mission, vision, values and goals and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2. *Contributes to the patient assessment and reassessment based on the presenting problems/needs in accordance with Kearney Regional Medical Center's (KRMC) procedures and policies. 3. Follows the eight (8) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. 4. *Performs vital signs including heart rate, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature. 5. *Performs EKGs. 6. Interprets and analyzes heart rhythms. 7. *Communicates pertinent initial and ongoing patient data to the RN for identification of nursing priorities of care and desired outcomes/goals. 8. *Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educate the patient and family regarding pain management. 9. *Utilizes appropriate standards of care based on the patient's diagnosis and age-specific needs. 10. Executes therapeutic and/or supportive interventions under the direction of the RN. 11. As directed by the RN, provides education for the patient and family to meet identified patient needs according to their needs, abilities, preferences, and readiness to learn. 12. Incorporates cultural considerations into the plan/delivery of care. 13. Includes family or significant others in the care of the patient as appropriate. 14. Documents patient care and related information according to facility procedures for documentation. 15. *Provides care in conjunction with other members of the interdisciplinary team. 16. Provides close observation or one-to-one care, as directed by the RN, to prevent patients from wandering or potential injury. 17. *Performs purposeful hourly rounding on all patients assigned. 18. Performs bedside report on patients at shift change in the room; this includes any handoff of patient care. 19. Contributes to the patient's transition to the next level of care. 20. Assumes responsibility in a shared or delegated assignment and supports team member's practices through timely communication. 21. Serves as a role model to colleagues, students, and other care providers, acts in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure 22. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 23. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 24. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned by manager. (Essential Job functions are marked with an asterisk *) REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient's growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies. 2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions. 3. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. 4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 5. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes. 6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff. 7. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills. 8. Ability to maintain HIPAA confidentiality relevant to sensitive information. 9. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. 10. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a School of Practical Nursing with current licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Must provide evidence of certification and/or instruction for practice area as required by State or Federal standards/regulations. OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
