Description
Summary

In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Director, Performance Improvement serves as a member of the organization's leadership team and contributes to organizational and department strategic planning and execution. The incumbent oversees and provides strategic leadership in all performance improvement functions and leads organizational strategic initiatives to align and integrate data systems and analytics throughout the organization.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • As a member of the leadership team, contribute to the development and execution of the organization's strategic plan.
  • Develop and execute a strategic vision and plan for assigned area(s) of oversight, in line with the organization's mission and vision. Be accountable for the achievement of the plan and its supporting goals.
  • Oversee the operations of assigned department(s), prioritize objectives, and implement strategies to achieve department goals and KPIs.
  • Oversee and provide strategic leadership in all performance improvement functions, including but not limited to process analysis, data collection, review, and analysis; development and use of data visualization tools; and development and maintenance of data validation controls.
  • Develop and monitor a working budget for assigned department(s), including the identification of capital and staffing requirements.
  • Champion inter- and cross-department changes focused on innovation, gaining efficiencies, and increasing productivity in support of the organization's mission.
  • Oversee the Incident report system and resulting investigations and RCAs. Provide expertise in appropriateness of investigation, corrective action and monitoring.
  • In collaboration with other departments, develop strategies to enhance efficiencies and drive process standardization and improvement throughout the organization.
  • Monitor key performance indicators as directed by senior leadership, regularly evaluating and recommending opportunities to enhance organizational performance.
  • Participate in assigned internal committees, work groups, and project teams as appropriate.
  • Represent Gift of Life through attendance at conferences and participation in local and national organizations and committees.
  • Participate in peer-to-peer collaboration with other organ procurement organizations and partners for best practice sharing and learning.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for assigned area(s) of oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee the day-to-day work of assigned direct reports, set and communicate clear expectations, and provide coaching/guidance as necessary.
  • Provide ongoing formal and informal performance feedback, conducting performance reviews and/or corrective action discussions as necessary.
  • Support staff in setting performance goals and in furthering their professional development.


  • Work with Human Resources to hire new employees and determine compensation levels for all assigned direct reports.
  • Support and contribute to the achievement of organizational and department goals.


  • Support the bi-directional communication of organizational and department messaging between leadership and staff.
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Manage other tasks required of supervisors such as time and attendance, staff change requests, and reporting.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
Required

  • Bachelor's degree in related field plus seven years' progressively responsible experience in a related position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least four years' direct experience in performance improvement at a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.
  • Experience establishing department and/or team strategies and goals.
  • At least four years' experience in management and/or leadership role (project, team, workgroup).


Preferred

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Additional certifications, or experience in organ procurement, health care, or project management.
  • Experience leading and successfully completing large scope projects.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft 365 applications (including Power BI), Report UI presentation skills, developing full automation reporting, ETL, and data management.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to identify patterns and trends in data sets.
