Job Summary and Responsibilities

Acentra Health is looking for a Clinical Medical Coder - PRN - On-site (Topeka, Kansas) to join our growing team.

Job Summary:

  • The Clinical Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing medical records to ensure accurate and specific coding of diagnosis and procedures. This role supports optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional services by applying established coding guidelines and methodologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze medical documentation to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures.
  • Sequence diagnoses and procedures in accordance with official coding guidelines.
  • Validate the accuracy of Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) and Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) assignments.
  • Validate interim billing to coding.
  • Validate billing utilizing itemized invoice against claim.
  • Extract and compile data from medical records to support appropriate reimbursement.
  • Provide backup support for administrative tasks as needed.
  • Meet performance standards and contract deliverables.
  • Participate in additional duties and training(s) as assigned.
  • Read, understand, and adhere to all corporate policies including policies related to HIPAA and its Privacy and Security Rules.

This role is contingent upon being awarded a contract. Start dates and final offers are contingent upon the contract award and final contract start dates.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications/Experience:
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma OR GED equivalent (or degree in a higher level of education).
  • Certification in medical coding from AAPC or AHIMA as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) OR a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
  • Must reside in the state of Kansas within 5 miles of Topeka, Kansas.
  • Must work on-site in Topeka, Kansas Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central.
  • 1+ years of proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT and medical terminology.
  • 1+ years of proficiency and a solid understanding of anatomy, physiology and clinical documentation.
  • 1+ years of familiarity with Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) and Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) reimbursement methodologies.
  • Experience using coding software such as 3M CodeFinder or 3M Encoder.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Efficient data entry and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
