Overview

This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following location(s): Raleigh or Charlotte, North Carolina, Morristown, New Jersey or New York City.

We are seeking a strategic, enterprise-minded Director, Business Strategy and Architecture to join the Business Transformation team and lead enterprise operating model design and alignment across the Commercial Bank. This role will serve as a senior architect of our business strategy and transformation narrative - shaping how we define and evolve our structure, segmentation, and capabilities to meet our growth, profitability, and risk goals.

This is a rare opportunity to be at the center of one of the bank's most critical multi-year transformations, ensuring that strategy, structure, client needs, and change delivery come together in an integrated, actionable operating model.


Responsibilities

Operating Model Architecture & Design

  • Lead the development and maintenance of current state, future state, and transition state operating models across business areas.
  • Ensure strategic coherence across business structure, client segments, coverage models, and product strategy.
  • Synthesize inputs from financial, risk, and enterprise strategy to inform the design of scalable, sustainable operating models.

Cross-Business Strategic Alignment

  • Serve as the strategic integrator across business-aligned Design & Delivery Leads to maintain end-to-end coherence.
  • Facilitate decision frameworks and ensure cross-functional interlock across segment, product, risk, and finance stakeholders.
  • Identify and elevate enterprise-level tradeoffs and design tensions for resolution via governance pathways.

Client Segmentation & Growth Strategy

  • Partner with business leaders to develop and refine client segmentation strategy aligned to market opportunity, risk appetite, and product/channel fit.
  • Translate segmentation strategy into actionable implications for structure, experience design, and platform alignment.

Strategic Narrative & Executive Engagement

  • Collaborate with Change & Readiness Leads and the Office of the COO to develop and socialize a compelling enterprise transformation narrative.
  • Support the development of executive engagement materials and shape the sequencing of engagement with leadership forums.
  • Ensure the strategic narrative underpins governance, roadmap decisions, and benefit realization targets.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in Business Strategy, Project Planning, and Financial Services industry OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of experience in Business Strategy, Project Planning, and Financial Services industry

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of experience in business architecture, strategy, or a related field, with a strong background in banking or financial services.
  • Deep understanding of commercial banking business models, client segmentation, product economics, and coverage models.
  • Knowledge of financial services regulations, compliance standards, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving cross-enterprise strategy alignment and operating model design.
  • Exceptional structured thinking and written communication skills; able to distill complexity into clarity for senior leaders.
  • Strong relationship-building and influence skills across executive, functional, and delivery stakeholders.

Other:

  • Systems thinker with a high degree of business acumen and the ability to connect vision to design to execution.
  • Confident communicator and trusted advisor who can challenge constructively and elevate strategic clarity.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and shaping structure and clarity in fluid enterprise environments.
  • Certification in Business Architecture or Enterprise Architecture (e.g. BIZBOK, TOGAF, BIAN).
  • Experience with financial services technology (e.g. core banking systems, CRM, ERP).
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and project management tools, including JIRA

If hired in New Jersey, North Carolina or New York City the base pay for this position is generally between $129,848.00 and $173,130.00. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment
