The Tooling Engineer II is responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and troubleshooting injection molds and tooling systems. This position plays a key role in supporting the production of high-quality plastic components and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including Design, Manufacturing, and Quality. The goal is to ensure tool durability, minimize downtime, and achieve consistent product performance. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designs, reviews, and modifies injection molds using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or NX).
- Collaborates with product designers to ensure manufacturability (DFM) and optimal tooling solutions.
- Selects appropriate materials, coatings, and technologies to enhance mold durability and performance.
- Analyzes and resolves common tooling-related issues such as sink marks, warpage, flash, and parting line defects.
- Optimizes injection molding processes (e.g., cycle time, gate design, cooling systems) for cost and time efficiency.
- Conducts mold flow analysis (e.g., Moldflow) to predict and address potential defects.
- Leads root cause analysis (RCA) for tooling failures and implements corrective actions.
- Manages tooling projects from concept to production, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
- Coordinates with external mold makers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure quality and timely delivery.
- Participates in tooling trials (T0, T1, etc.) and approves final mold qualifications.
- Develops and implements preventive maintenance programs to extend tool life.
- Maintains detailed records of tooling specifications, modifications, and maintenance history.
- Identifies and standardizes tooling best practices across the organization.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited Institution.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in injection molding tooling design, development and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrates proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Applies mold flow analysis tools (e.g., Moldflow) effectively.
- Understands plastic materials (thermoplastics, elastomers), mold steels, and machining processes.
- Solves problems, communicates effectively, and manages projects efficiently.
- Works effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be occasionally required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e., climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
