The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for an Arabic language instructor for fall 2025. We are seeking a skilled language instructor with a commitment to a proficiency-based approach to language teaching. The pay is $8500 per course section. The instructor we're seeking will teach one section of intermediate Arabic in the fall; the class meets MW 11:15-12:05 and TR 11:05-11:55. This is a temporary position that carries no benefits.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies ( DAMES) is an academic unit in the College of Arts & Sciences. Our mission is to serve the undergraduate populations by offering majors and minors in a range of Asian and Middle Eastern languages and cultures. We also offer an MA program with two tracks: Interdisciplinary Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, and Chinese Studies. In addition, our faculty conduct research in the field of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies and contribute to the College, the University, and the state through service and leadership.
Position Summary
Teaching Arabic language courses.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
MA in Arabic language pedagogy, Arabic language & culture, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Near-native fluency in Arabic and English. Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in teaching Arabic at the university level.
