Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Education
  • 5-10 years of experience in a laboratory or research settings preferably within the field of atmospheric sciences and with exposure to federal (including Department of Defense) research activity.

Position Summary
The University of Georgia is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as an Atmospheric Science Research Laboratory Manager. This role is crucial for overseeing the daily operations of our atmospheric science laboratories, ensuring that all procedures are executed properly, and that laboratory staff is effectively managed and trained. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the quality and efficiency of our research facilities, contributing to groundbreaking research in atmospheric sciences, and supporting instruction across the spectrum of atmospheric sciences/geography course offerings.

Strong organizational and managerial skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in laboratory procedures and safety protocols, and the ability to analyze and interpret data.

Duties/Responsibilities
Perform data analysis and research to advance knowledge, generate extramural funding, and facilitate undergraduate/graduate experiences as appropriate. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support existing and emerging research projects. Over time, this position will collaborate with existing Faculty to assist in generating funding to support the position at a 100%level.

Support instruction activities with existing or new faculty across the spectrum of atmospheric sciences, geography, and related coursework.

Oversee and manage the daily operations of the atmospheric science related labs and activities including the WeatherDawgs studio, WRF Modeling, the X-Band Radar facility, and research activities at Rowen or other emerging sites/labs.

Establish and implement lab, studio and facilities controls and standards to ensure quality and accuracy in tests and experiments. Develop and implement laboratory policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and compliance. Handle administrative duties including developing and managing the atmospheric sciences laboratory budget and coordinating with other departments to ensure efficient lab operations.
