An Ore Control Geologist at Rio Tinto is responsible for managing ore and waste boundaries, collecting and analyzing geological data, optimizing ore delivery and stockpiling strategies. The role involves collaborating with various teams, including lab supervisors, mine schedulers, and integrated operations teams, to ensure efficient and accurate ore control processes. Key responsibilities include determining ore/waste boundaries, block outs, field verification of drill hole samples, blast holes and stockpiles, reporting and maintaining best practices within the team. The role also emphasizes safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work Safely in a mine environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ore/Waste/Stockpile Management: Determine boundaries and ensure they are outlined safely, accurately, and timely.

  • Field Verification: Perform field verification of blast holes and stockpiles.

  • Optimization: Collaborate with the lab supervisor and sample collection teams to prioritize and collect drill hole samples and work with Mine and Concentrator schedulers, Ore Body Knowledge team, and Integrated Operations teams to optimize ore delivery and stockpiling strategies.

  • Reporting: Prepare daily and monthly ore control reports documenting key metrics.

Full time employment,site based: 8 days on - 6 days off rotating shift. 10-hour days.

What you'll bring
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Geosciences or equivalent.

  • Computer competency (AcQuire, Excel, Word, etc.), effective communication with stakeholders, attention to detail.

Preferred:
  • Prior Experience: Experience in Ore Control and/or Production Geology.

  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of Vulcan and Terrain or other dispatch systems.

  • Experience: Previous experience in open cut mining and ore body assessment.

  • Software Proficiency: Experience with acQuire, Vulcan, Leapfrog, Blast Logic.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills.

  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
