The Opportunity:

The Head of Discovery Research CVM is a pivotal role reporting to the Global Head Cardio Metabolism & Immunology (CMI) within Roche's Pharma Research & Early Development (pRED). With Roche's commitment and strategic focus to strengthen our position in cardiovascular and metabolic (CVM) diseases this is an outstanding opportunity to impact this growing therapeutic area and positively affect human health.

You will be responsible for building the pRED CVM Discovery team and developing a sustainable vision and strategy for a growing organisation of talented researchers, tackling diverse aspects of CVM. You will lead and oversee the CVM discovery research strategy and portfolio, driving innovation and guiding a multidisciplinary team to develop groundbreaking therapies that improve the lives of patients worldwide. In addition your key responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee research management to identify and validate new therapeutic targets and pathways

  • Stay current with the latest scientific advancements and technological innovations in CVM research to integrate cutting-edge approaches into the discovery pipeline

  • Be an active member of the pRED CMI Leadership Team

  • Develop, lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of scientists while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence

  • Represent Roche externally at scientific conferences and meetings

  • Work closely with the Early Clinical Development organisation and other internal and external stakeholders, including academic institutions, biotech partners, and clinical development teams, to drive collaborative research efforts

  • Manage budgets, resources, and timelines effectively to ensure the successful execution of research programs

  • Ensure all research activities comply with relevant regulatory requirements and ethical standards

Who you are:

You will have a Ph.D. or Ph.D./M.D. in Cardiovascular or Metabolism or a related field, combined with 15+ years experience in CVM research, and a proven track record in discovery and preclinical development. You will be a recognized scientific expert in the field of CVM with a track record of CVM research publications.

  • Demonstrable strategic and analytical thinking

  • Exceptional VACC (Visionary, Architect, Catalyse, Coach) leadership experience and strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment, specifically with Early Clinical Development teams

  • An innovative mindset with a passion for discovering new therapies for CVM patients

  • Experienced working in a global enterprise with impact in early discovery and early drug development

  • Experience driving the development and execution of the strategic direction for discovery research in CVM

  • Strong business acumen
