Under general supervision, designs, codes, tests and deploys software in all layers of the development life cycle. Provides the necessary documentation.

FedEx is seeking a Senior System Programmer to support cloud cost optimization and governance across Azure, GCP, and OCI. This role blends FinOps, DevOps, and SRE expertise to drive cost efficiency, automation, and financial transparency in cloud operations.

Essential Functions

  • Responds to issues related to environment, hardware, system and/or software and executes disaster recovery procedures across technology areas.
  • Frequently leads large projects.
  • Provides guidance to those in less senior positions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities'

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure across Azure, OCI, and GCP using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and monitoring of cloud resources to support cost efficiency and operational excellence.
  • Understanding of FinOps principles, cost allocation, tagging strategies, and cloud financial governance.
  • Experience implementing cost controls, budget alerts, and optimization strategies.
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to integrate cost optimization checks and governance controls.
  • Implement cloud-native solutions to monitor performance, usage, and cost metrics in real time.
  • Build custom automation tools and scripts (Python, SQL) to collect, analyze, and visualize cloud financial and operational data.
  • Create and manage real-time dashboards and reporting tools using Power BI, APIs, and Cloudability.
  • Enforce tagging standards, budget alerts, and cost allocation models to improve cost transparency and accountability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Finance, Operations) to align cloud usage with business and financial goals.
  • Identify and implement cloud cost optimization strategies, including rightsizing, reserved instances, and workload scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with internal governance policies and industry-leading FinOps frameworks.
  • Stay current with emerging cloud technologies, FinOps practices, and engineering trends to continuously improve cloud cost management capabilities.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strategic mindset with financial acumen and attention to detail.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of software and engineering principles. Strong basic management, human relations, and communication skills.

Domicile Information:

This is a hybrid position requiring the employee to be onsite 2 days a week at the Memphis, TN location. The candidate must live within 50 miles of Memphis, TN.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems or related field and/or equivalent.

Minimum Experience

Five (5) years equivalent work experience in information technology or engineering environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.

Pay Transparency: This compensation range is provided as a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay would be determined by experience relative to the job, market level, pay at the location for this job and other job-related factors permitted by law. An employee may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential. The Company offers eligible employees health, vision and dental insurance, retirement, and tuition reimbursement.

Pay: U.S. Pay Range: $6,168.90-$10,898.39/month
