This temporary/part-time position is not to exceed 6 months and will work up to 29 hours per week maximum.
The Paralegal performs a wide variety of paralegal/legal clerical and special projects duties to include but not limited to research, major case document management, trial preparation, and advanced technical assistance to Chief Deputy District Attorneys, Deputy District Attorneys, Investigators, Victim/Witness and general law enforcement personnel. Subject matter for these cases could include sensitive topics from the following departments but limited to: Organized Crime Unit, Special Victims Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, and Felony-Homicides.

Duties

Appeals - CCJRA/CORA Performs a wide variety of moderately complex legal duties in support of the Appellate Unit -Primary function is to assist with Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) and Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA) requests and Subpoenas to Produce received by the Office of the District Attorney and subpoenas for records.Uses photo and/or video editing software for high volume redactions. Use computer to manage case related documentation to including correspondence with members of media and public facilitating records requests and providing costs estimates and invoicing.
- Duties:Reads, analyzes, cross-references, and processes initial and on-going records requests.
- Determines what information to release in response to requests (including the review of audio/video materials).
- Provides requestor with a time and cost estimates to requestor to facilitate a determination of the scope of the request. This may involve working with case assigned attorney to locate the most relevant material to disclose.
- Reviews and makes necessary redactions and produces copies of material and prepares notification for defense attorney of availability.
- Prepares and maintains an Excel computer log and document records requests, subpoenas and case information release.
- Conducts limited research on case law and applicable statutes as necessary to draft and prepare correspondence.
- Uses photo and/or video editing software for high volume redactions. Use computer to manage case related documentation to include correspondence and Action.
- May, on occasion, respond to court to provide subpoenaed records.
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Considerableknowledgeof legal terminology,court procedures and structure of court levels (i.e. county to district, district to Court of Appeals, and/or Colorado Supreme Court). Workingknowledgeof general officeprocedures andpractices. Considerableknowledgeof spelling, punctuationandgrammar.
- Ability to plan, organize, track time, and prioritize aspects of work to comply with statutorily mandated deadlines.
- Abilityto followsemi-complexoral andwritten instructions. Abilityto be detail oriented,multi-task,andprioritize tasksanddeadlines. Abilityto operate standard office equipment,e.g. personal computer, fax,copier andconsiderableknowledgeof Word, Excel, Adobe,andotherMS Office programs.

Education and Experience:
- HS diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certification preferred
- 4+ years progressively responsible legal clerical experience with at least two (2) years of experience at the Legal Secretary II level or related equivalent experience. A paralegal degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience
- Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

- Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), fingerprinting, and Colorado Bureau of Investigation check.
