Transportation Planner

The Transportation Planner will participate in a broad range of projects, in support of federal agencies, in particular U. S. DOT. The position will involve working with a diverse set of clients/project initiators. Project work will include establishing goals and objectives; researching and presenting best practices; and conducting operational assessments.

Representative projects include assisting in the development of long-range strategic plans, market and environmental assessments, environmental streamlining strategies, policy guidance, operations guidelines and plans for alternative modes of transportation, data analysis and management.

The Transportation Planner position will be located in Cambridge, MA at the U. S. DOT's Volpe Center. The qualified candidate must have a Masters Degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning or Engineering. The candidate needs to be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities that will support planning projects with respect to transportation.

The successful candidate will have working knowledge of multiple modes of transportation, system-wide transportation planning principles, and transportation operations. Knowledge will include a familiarity with: public policy, federal guidance and grant programs, transportation strategies and tactics, transportation infrastructure, environmental planning, institutional planning and program development, economics, benefit - cost analysis, statistics, supply chain management and logistics, and communications and information technologies.
