Assistant Professor of Sociology
About the Position:The Department of Sociology at Western Washington University invites applications to fill a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin September 2010, pending budgetary approval. About the Department:The Sociology Department is comprised of twelve full-time faculty engaged in a wide range of research activities who often involve undergraduate students in their research.
The Department does not offer a master's degree. The Center for Social Science Instruction is housed within the Department, provides assistance to faculty and students with computing and statistical analysis. Position Responsibilities:
- Teaching undergraduate courses in sociological theory and research methods
- Active engagement in scholarship, including scholarly publications
- Active participation in service activities within the Department, University, and discipline
- Active engagement in collaborative scholarship with undergraduates
Required Qualifications:
- Ph. D in sociology anticipated by the time of appointment
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining an active program of research/scholarship and publication
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching undergraduate courses in sociological theory
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching undergraduate courses in research methods
- Area specialization in family and/or life course studies
- Ability to work with a diverse student population and staff
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Interest in collaborative research with undergraduates
