Manager Organization: Engineering & Planning Department: Distribution Engineering Job Code: 12-562 Qualifications: Distribution Engineering is looking for a highly motivated individual with strong technical, communication, decision-making, and leadership skills. The candidate must also be able to exercise independent judgment, and possess the ability to render sound business decisions. Must possess strong leadership skills, initiate and champion change, and have the ability to influence and persuade others in order to improve work practices/processes. Must be able to deliver exemplary customer service and develop a team spirited work environment in support of Con Edison's Corporate Values.Candidate must have a BS degree in Civil Engineering and 10 years related work experience.Must have 5 years of structural experience. Must have a design background to produce structural repair drawings or sketches as needed to facilitate repairs and assure the safe and reliable operation of structures and equipment. Must be knowledgeable of applicable codes, standards, practices and requirements. Must be detail oriented, be able to work under pressure and multitask concurrent assignments. Must have project management skills and the ability to develop root cause analysis reports. Strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to diplomatically interact with internal and external customers, support staffs and various levels of management. Must have the ability to function as an expert Company witness when necessary. Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications (MS Office, CAD applications, etc.) PE preferred.

Responsibilities: Ensures implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations. Manages the development of designs for structures and related civil engineering specifications. Directs civil/structural projects associated with the Distribution Equipment Section. Manages the development of specifications for tools and equipment items for the electric distribution system. Directs the development of improvements to the designs of structures, materials, tools and equipment used on the distribution system. Assists the operating areas in the solution of technical problems related to the underground distribution system. Responds to emergency field problems in his/her field of expertise. Exercises full decision making capability. Directs technical and economic studies to determine the best design features for the structural components of the distribution system. Directs failure analysis efforts to identify improvements to existing designs that will increase service life and reduce life cycle cost. Promotes the development of innovative solutions to the challenges faced with the design, construction, and maintenance of Company structures in a dense urban service territory. Ensures that designs developed and materials used meet the highest environmental standards. Serves as a technical consultant within the Company or the industry in his/her field of specialization. Directs inspection and repair support for all damaged underground structures. Ensures compliance with applicable local and national codes. Acts in place of Department Manager when so delegated. Supervises senior engineers, engineers, and associate engineers. Prepares and teaches technical seminars related to Con Edison?s distribution practices. Manages the development of scoping documents, specification revisions, and project appropriations.Must have a valid driver?s license. must be able and willing to travel within the Company territory as needed.
